Audi has taken the wraps off the new facelifted version of the Audi A8 luxury sedan. The latest iteration of the luxury sedan from the German automaker now comes with a super-efficient 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain as well.
Starting with the powertrain options of the new facelifted version of the Audi A8, the luxury sedan comes with not one but three engine options.
Starting with the diesel engine, it is a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 TDI diesel engine that comes with a 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to further improve the efficiency and performance of the engine. This engine pushes out a healthy 286bhp of peak power and 600Nm of peak torque.
The next engine option is a petrol engine. However, this engine is a plug-in hybrid unit that comes coupled to a 340bhp 3.0-litre TFSI turbocharged V6 engine with 500Nm of peak torque.
Combined, this plug-in hybrid powertrain in the facelifted version of the Audi A8 produces 443bhp and a mammoth 700Nm of torque. Other than this, the facelifted version of the plug-in hybrid model of the Audi A8 can travel in total silence up to 61kms at speeds up to 135 km/h, thanks to its 14.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack and 136bhp permanent magnet synchronous (PSM) electric motor.
The last engine on offer in the facelifted version of the Audi A8 is a potent 4.0-litre V8 engine. This engine produces a supercar-like 571bhp of peak power and truck-like 800Nm of peak torque.
Apart from these performance improvements, the new Audi A8 uses Audi’s state-of-the-art Space-Frame which uses 58 per cent Aluminium in its construction. This type of construction allows engineers at Audi to make the luxury sedan lighter yet stronger than its immediate predecessor.
Design-wise, the latest iteration of the Audi A8 looks a lot more futuristic with its stylish design elements such as its redesigned large single-piece front grille with three-dimensional chrome elements, a lowered roofline, redesigned air intakes and slightly widened wheel arches.
Other than these changes to the exterior, the new 2022 Audi A8 also sport a pair of Digital Matrix LED headlamps. These LED headlamps use chips equipped with 1.3 million micromirrors capable of changing orientation up to five thousand times per second. However, these state-of-the-art Digital Matrix LED headlamps are optional units and not part of the standard equipment.
Being the flagship sedan of the German automaker, the 2022 Audi A8 is one of the most tech-packed cars in the world and comes with 40 driver assistance features. The new Audi A8 also comes with features such as Parking Pilot function with remote control function via MyAudi App.
On the inside, the new Audi A8 comes with LED ambient lighting, massaging seats, two 10.1-inch screens for rear passengers, a 5.7-inch OLED screen to adjust various functions from the rear.
In addition to these, the new Audi A8 also uses active suspension for a super-smooth ride quality using the vehicle’s 360-degree camera. The system can also identify objects and lift the car up to 8cms to reduce the risk of a side impact.
