The MST Mk1 Evolution wll be limited to just ten units
MST Cars has taken its Mk1 restomod project to the next level by unveiling an all-new Mk1 Evolution. Compared to the standard model, the Evolution model is a high-performance variant fitted with a bigger race engine.
Powering the MST Mk1 Evolution is a 2.8-liter Millington Diamond power plant capable of generating approximately 360 horsepower. That is a huge power bump over the standard 2.5L Ford Duratec engine, which has around 200 hp -even more powerful than the 300-hp 2.5L Millington Diamond option.
As with the Mk1 Escort, the Evolution model is built from the ground up, though the UK-based tuning company retains the Ford Escort's renowned RWD setup, matched with a six-speed Tractive sequential gearbox.

Channeling the model's rich rally history, the MST Mk1 Evolution is installed with WRC-spec front and rear independent suspension, which is said to be initially developed and tested by the late rally icon Colin McRae.
Options include opting for either WRC Reiger dampers or Tractive semi-active dampers. MST Cars also lets customers choose either a bespoke trimmed interior or a stripped-out lightweight interior. The former is ideal for those who want to take the car out on the road without compromising comfort, while the latter is built for track and rally days.
Other Mk1 Evolution features are new carbon fiber kits, including a spoiler and diffuser, AP Racing six-pot brakes, and more prominent carbon wheel fenders. These allow the larger 17-inch wheels (13 or 15-inch in the non-Evolution models) to be fitted seamlessly into the vehicle.

What you're seeing in the photos is the rolling prototype. At the back of the first photo in this story is MST Car's 6R4 Rally Car revival project build, which is getting a mid-engined V6 setup, sequential gearbox, and an all-new carbon fiber body.
The company is initially building 10 individually numbered 2.8L Evo models, plus a couple of tarmac rally specials. MST Cars didn't mention any price, but considering the standard model already starts at 100,000 euros ($109,700), the Evolution-badged iteration should be priced higher.
Quite a hefty price to ask, considering that a modern-day 500-hp Ford Mustang Dark Horse can be yours for $57,970.
