There’s an even more hardcore version of the Audi RS6 Avant in the works, Audi Sport managing director Sebastian Grams confirmed to Autocar.
When asked at a recent 40th anniversary celebration whether the new Performance trim would be the most focused version of the car, Grams told Autocar “No, we can go more extreme.”
“You can see that we are sharpening our portfolio,” Grams added. “We are always trying to take the maximum out of the technology. This is how I challenge my R&D department. We can go even further. We can make the car even stronger, even more performance, even sharper.”
The RS6 Avant Performance makes 621 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8, and gets a new, lighter version of the car’s “self-locking” center differential, along with less sound deadening, four-wheel steering, and unique lightweight wheels. Presumably, this new model would be even more extreme, with Autocar predicting more power and even sharper dynamics. Don’t expect the car to lose its ability to be a comfy grand tourer, though.
“Don’t forget the RS models are used on a daily basis: we are not trying to lose our DNA,” Grams told Autocar. “An RS model needs to be an all-day car, but it needs to give performance if needed.”
Grams told Autocar Audi Sport plans to unveil a new car in 2024, so we’ll have to wait until at least next year to find out what sorts of changes the performance arm has in store.
