Would you like to see the iconic Beetle come back with an ID. badge?
Volkswagen has been busy starring its ID. series in the film industry, with the ID. Buzz making an appearance in a Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi commercial. The all-electric ID. 4 also featured in Marvel's Ant-Man universe developed with a shrinking technology (not available in the actual production model).
The latest film project of the VW brand is “Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie,” made possible via a partnership with co-producers Zag and Mediawan Kids & Family. The movie is set in Paris, and the automaker is bringing four cars from the ID. Series including a “concept car electric Beetle.”
Not a lot of details were disclosed about the concept, and the trailer doesn't give viewers even a glimpse. But looking at the movie poster, the iconic VW car has returned to the scene in an all-electric form following the end of its production back in 2019.
This means we are seeing another official Beetle EV concept straight from the German brand's design team.
The concept sports the iconic round headlamps minus a grille as it doesn't need the same cooling as ICE cars. It also appears to come with transparent doors, which is something we won't likely see if VW has plans to revive the nameplate.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will also make an appearance in its two-tone Candy White and Lime Yellow exterior color. The all-electric minivan debuted in the US earlier this month in a long wheelbase, three-row seating configuration. The other two ID. models in the movie include the ID. Vizzion Concept and ID.4.
“From the very beginning of the incredible adventure of the film, the collaboration with Volkswagen appeared to us as a natural fit. Our two brands have many values in common. Transmitting the values of a better world is also our responsibility as producers,” said Aton Soumache and Emmanuel Jacomet, producers of the film.

“With my creative team, I had a lot of fun adapting the iconic vehicles of the Volkswagen brand to the world of Miraculous and to integrate them seamlessly into the film and the Parisian settings. Ladybug and Cat Noir represent the new generation, and the vehicles in the film embody that modernity. For me, it is crucial to convey an essential message: taking care of our environment to live in a better world tomorrow,” said Jeremy Zag, director of the movie.
We'll get to see more of the Beetle EV concept when the “Miraculous: Lady Bug & Cat Noir, The Movie” comes out in theaters globally starting July 5. Netflix subscribers can also watch the animated superhero movie on the streaming platform starting July 28, 2023.
