Australia to see F-150 action soon as Ford’s pick-up secures top spot in US for 46th consecutive year
Ford is celebrating yet another dominant year with its ever-popular Ford F-150, having sold an incredible 640,000 examples of the pick-up truck in the United States in 2022.
The achievement marks the 46th consecutive year the F-150 has stood as the best-selling truck in the US, and an unbroken run of 41 years as the country’s most popular vehicle bar none.
Ford said it sold so many F-150s last year that if you lined them all up they would stretch from Los Angeles to Detroit, spanning a distance of around 3900km.
The company also said that on average it managed to sell one F-Series truck every 49 seconds last year, although the 640,000 figure was well down on the 726,004 it sold in 2021 and pales beside the 787,400 units delivered in 2020.
Will Aussie tradies jump on board the new F-150?
The Blue Oval claims to have been on track to sell around 900,000 F-150s a year before the pandemic struck, but since then the US car giant has been hit hard by the semi-conductor crisis.
Commenting on securing the best-selling vehicle in America once again, Ford Blue president Kumar Galhotra said: “The Ford truck team’s ability to anticipate customer needs, continuously innovate and provide best-in-class levels of capability and performance has helped make F-Series the sales leader time and time again.”
This year, the F-150 success story will continue Down Under when converted right-hand drive versions of the full-size truck go on sale.
Ford's new ute is very flexible
Ford Australia has already revealed the upcoming 2023 Ford F-150 will be offered with a choice of four models – not just two as it originally announced – including XLT and Lariat grades in both short and long wheelbase forms.ord
Full pricing has yet to be announced but the Blue Oval says it has already received around 8000 expressions of interest.
For now, the F-150 offering in Australia will be purely combustion offerings, with the all-electric battery-powered F-150 Lightning off limits for our market.
