The Detroit Auto show had one chief unveiling that the entire world was waiting for with bated breath. Ford chose to unveil their seventh-generation Mustang at the illustrious show in front of thousands of industry professionals and spectators.
Along with the standard model, which is a logical evolution of the Mustang silhouette, is Ford’s track-ready muscle car; the Dark Horse. As the name states, it is finished in a hue of paint that would make its details hard to recognize in a dimly lit environment. The name of the shade is Blue Ember and it dominates the exterior while blue details can be found in other parts of the coupe.
To make this a true track car, Ford has equipped it with a Torsen limited-slip differential with a larger sway bar at the rear, while the front gets a strut tower brace and upgraded dampers. More aggressive tyres are placed on all corners and Brembo brakes are concealed within, with the calipers in that aforementioned shade of blue.

Under the long bonnet remains the 5,0-litre Coyote V8 and Ford has tinkered with the motor to offer even more output than before, although they remain tight-lipped on any specific numbers. Rumours are that Ford is aiming for as much as 373 kW from the sizable motor and this can all be transferred to a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.
Back to the exterior, the Dark Horse receives new side skirts, a larger rear wing and diffuser. Inside the model, the standard Mustang logo is replaced with that of the Dark Horse on the digital cluster. The same logos can be found on the exterior of the model.

Ford will also be introducing a Dark Horse S model which will be specifically focused on racing. This means that it comes with a racing seat, quick-release steering wheel and an FIA-approved cage – all of these will share the same DNA with the Mustang GT3 racing program that will commence next year.
