Ford South Africa has relocated its Performance Centre to the heart of Centurion, offering a number of parts and services designed to get your Ford ready for a day at the track.
To celebrate the move, the automaker treated visitors to a tour of its new facilities and a treat for the eyes in the form of amazing cars on display at the Lazarus dealership museum/.
A visual treat
Owned by car collector Colin Lazarus, the Lazarus dealership has an impressive number of cars on display from the blue oval.
This includes every generation of the iconic Ford GT supercar, which rose to fame in 1966 when the original GT40 brought home a victory for Ford against Ferrari at the Le Mans 24-hour race.
The new centrepiece of the collection is the latest generation Ford GT from 2020, which both Colin and Ford say is the only one of its kind on the African continent.
The blue track car is made from a carbon fibre monocoque with an integrated steel roll cage and aluminium substructure for added strength, giving it a weight of just 1,300kg.
Its 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivers 482kW and 550Nm, letting the car soar from 0-100km/h in only 3 seconds.
The collection is not just limited to the GTs, however, and muscle car fans will be pleased to know there were plenty of Mustangs on display as well.
This included models done up by the likes of RTR and Roush, denoted by a host of new badges and other cosmetic enhancements to both the interior and exterior, such as a set of striking black and red alloy wheels.
Perhaps the most interesting and unusual models in Colin’s collection, though, are three older Fords in pristine condition from decades gone by, including an original Model T from as far back as the 1920s.
