- More Details to Come
Originally introduced in the 1960s, the Dodge Charger and Challenger are again being given the ax and won’t live to see 2024 — at least not in their current forms. While Dodge has not revealed any details about the future of the nameplates, it has hinted that they’ll make a return — with electric power. Prior to this transformation, however, the muscle cars will get a proper send-off for 2023 with special editions and a factory-assisted aftermarket convertible option for the Challenger, announced at the inaugural Dodge Speed Week.
Heritage-Inspired Colors and Badging

Seven heritage-inspired special editions will be available, starting with six trims slated to be unveiled later in 2022 (likely representing the Demon, Hellcat, Redeye, Scat Pack, Shaker and Jailbreak variants); the seventh model will be revealed at the 2022 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in November. Heritage-inspired exterior paint colors, including B5 Blue, Plum Crazy Purple, Sublime Green and the returning Destroyer Grey join a total of 14 available paint colors for 2023.
In more discreet nods to the current generations’ final year, the special editions also add a “Last Call” brushed-aluminum plaque under the hood that displays the vehicle’s name, silhouette and assembly location. R/T models add a “345” fender badge representing the models’ 345-cubic-inch Hemi engine.
Jailbreak Branches Out
In addition to the visual cues above, the 2023 Charger and Challenger also see the expansion of their lineups to include the SRT Jailbreak. Introduced for 2022 on SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody variants, the Jailbreak opens up the roster of exterior and interior options like colors, graphics and wheels, among other factory customization opportunities. In 2022 models, it boosts horsepower figures from 797 to 807; for 2023, the Jailbreak expands to the 717-hp Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat (though Dodge did not clarify whether 10 hp will be added for Hellcats).
The Challenger Drops Top
Challenger shoppers will have an easier time opting for open-air driving starting Aug. 16 with an integrated ordering process for the sports coupe’s convertible modification. Shoppers will be able to customize their 2022 Challenger with a convertible top through Drop Top Customs, a third-party modification company. The vehicle will then be shipped directly from the factory to Drop Top, where it’s modified and sent back to the dealer for pickup.
The new modification ordering option will be available on 2022 and 2023 Challenger R/T, R/T Scat Pack and all SRT variants for $25,999.

Dodge says it will announce more details, including ordering and pricing information, closer to their on-sale date. It will also roll out a new ordering system that allocates new cars to dealerships simultaneously; the brand claims this process will assist shoppers in finding and ordering the right vehicle.
