The 2022 Ford Expedition sales are way down
The 2022 Ford Expedition is typically a best-seller, but its sales in the first quarter of 2022 are way down from where they were in the first quarter of 2021. At the end of the first quarter of 2021, the Ford Expedition had sold 22,263 models. In contrast, by the end of the first quarter of 2022, the Ford Expedition had sold just 9,718. That’s 12,545 fewer SUVs than last year.
It’s worth noting that the 2022 Ford Expedition sales have declined as the beginning of 2022 has progressed. In January 4,725 Expeditions were sold, but in February 3,076 models were sold. And in March of 2022, only 1,917 Ford Expeditions were sold.
Supply chain disruptions continue to impact sales
One thing that consistently impacts all motor vehicle sales right now is the pandemic. While there are many factors at play that are making it harder to both buy and sell vehicles, ongoing supply chain problems are certainly at the top of them. Auto manufacturers are experiencing parts shortages that is making it very difficult to produce the same number of vehicles as usual. In addition to that, there are microchip shortages that have resulted in some car makers such as Ford to temporarily halt adding some coveted features.
Yet there is some hope for the automotive world. The chip shortage is finally lessening after nearly two years of problems. That means that car manufacturers are increasingly able to produce their normal number of vehicles – with all of the necessary parts.
The brand-new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer may be taking a slice of sales
There’s another factor that may be impacting the 2022 Ford Expedition sales is the new-to-market 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and its luxury sibling the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. These two additions to the large SUV segment and large luxury segment present an interesting problem for the Ford Expedition and other large SUVs.
The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer are updated versions of a favorite throwback. While the Wagoneer isn’t exactly stealing all of the Ford Expedition’s sales, it is certainly taking a respectable piece. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer sold 7,056 units in the first quarter of 2022.
The 2022 Ford Expedition sales may be down, but it’s unlikely that they will stay that way. The Ford Expedition is a mainstay of the large SUV market. It’s one of the biggest SUVs that you can buy, and the latest iteration offers so many family-friendly features in a safe package that it’s unlikely that this temporary dip in sales will have any long-term impact. We’ll just have to wait and see how long the supply chain delays and other problems will play a role in the Ford Expedition’s sales.
