MG is anticipating a significant shipment of the updated ZS EV SUV ahead of its Australian launch in a couple of month’s time.
With the previous model selling out back in February, MG had to contend with a gap between the end of sales of the pre-facelifted model and the launch of the updated version.
An MG Motor Australia spokesperson confirmed that an official launch date was yet to be confirmed but added that it was earmarked for August this year.
That means keen buyers should be taking delivery of their new ZS EV just after the launch.
The confirmation of more stock and launch timing comes as MG Motor Australia announces that it has sold out of its pre-launch offer of a $500 discount towards the purchase of an MG ChargeHub home charging system.
The offer was available to the first 500 buyers to take it up and the allocation has been exhausted.
MG says while the offer is done, people can still pre-order the updated ZS EV ahead of its launch.
The MG spokesperson said the company is working with its Chinese parent company to ensure smooth delivery of the new model and to minimise delays.
“MG Motor Australia is continuing to see strong customer demand for our range of vehicles, including the new ZS EV in pre-sales. We are working closely with our supply chain to resolve any bottlenecks and minimise the impact of any delays on customer orders wherever possible,” they said.
As reported, the updated ZS EV has gone up in price and there are now two model grades, up from one, starting with the new entry-level Excite from $46,990 drive-away and the Essence from $49,990.
It is now battling for the title of Australia’s cheapest EV with the imminent BYD Atto 3 SUV, also from China, which is priced from $44,381 before on-road costs.
Last year, the MG ZS EV trailed the Tesla Model 3 as the second best-selling electric vehicle in Australia, with 1388 finding homes. The EV made up 7.5 per cent of total ZS sales, which also includes the popular petrol version.
The updated ZS EV gets a boost in battery capacity from 44.5kWh to 51kWh, which has lifted the WLTP driving range from 263km to 320km.
As reported this week, the ZS EV is soon to be joined by a new hatchback as MG’s second fully electric model. Known as the Mulan, it will likely adopt a different moniker in Australia, but will compete with the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born, as well as the Nissan Leaf and Mini Electric.
