- New Cupra UrbanRebel concept
- Shows off new electric supermini
- Another new model for Cupra in 2025
This is your second look at the UrbanRebel, a new electric city car from Cupra that’ll be here in 2025. It’s not the first time we’ve seen UrbanRebel in public, but it is the first time we’ve seen a closer-to-production version – now devoid of the crazy Pikes Peak aero of the concept car.
Compact, electric and front-wheel-drive, the new UrbanRebel is just 4.03m long (0.04m shorter than a VW Polo), and will sit on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB Small platform, which is expected to be deployed by Volkswagen for a future ID.2 supermini that was previewed by the ID.Life concept. When the Cupra does launch in 2025, production should take place in Martorell, Spain.
‘The UrbanRebel will be the biggest project for our company in the upcoming years, since it is key for our transformation as a fully electric brand,’ said Werner Tietz, Vice-President for Research & Development at Cupra. ‘We are leading the cluster development, the family of vehicles that will democratise sustainable urban mobility, for different brands within the Volkswagen Group.’
The car shown at the brand’s Unstoppable Impulse event also featured 3D-printed processes and recycled polymers, though it remains to be seen how much o those will make it to the production vehicle.
Do we have specs?
Despite being three years out, Cupra already specs for the UrbanRebel: a 223bhp (166kW) motor should hit 0-62mph from a standstill in a healthy 6.9 seconds, and range should be 273-miles in the larger battery version.
We’ll update this article when we know more.
