The Kia Sorento PHEV returns for the 2023 model year, but Kia has “streamlined” the plug-in hybrid lineup to a single trim, eliminating the SX and leaving only the SX-P. The fully loaded SX-P (the “P” stands for “prestige”) gets some minor enhancements for 2023 and will start at $51,095 (including $1,295 destination fee), a $1,710 increase over the 2022 model.
Power for the Sorento PHEV comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine and a 66.9-kilowatt electric motor, producing a combined 261 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the sole transmission choice is a six-speed automatic. Official EPA estimates for the 2023 Sorento PHEV aren’t available as of this writing, but the 2022 model is rated at 79 mpg-equivalent and 34 mpg combined when only using the gas engine, with 32 miles of all-electric range. Expect the 2023’s ratings to match or come very close to those.
As the top trim (and now the base, too), the SX-P is loaded with all sorts of goodies, including advanced driver-assistance tech like forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot warning with collision avoidance assist and rear cross-traffic detection, rear collision avoidance assist and much more. For 2023, the SX-P also adds standard Homelink, retractable sunshades for the rear doors and a 115-volt household outlet.
The 2023 Kia Sorento PHEV is on sale now. Note that prices do not include any applicable federal tax credits.
