Italy's offroading supercar is being put to work.
Believe it or not, the Lamborghini Huracan Evo-based Sterrato off-roader is becoming a reality. The all-terrain supercar has been spotted during some ice-surface testing with a raised suspension, LED light bar attached to the front, roof rails, and a robust front bumper attachment. The short clip shows us the prototype sliding about the surface while letting its naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 breathe just a little bit.
Despite being an all-wheel-drive supercar, presumably with snow-biased tires, the test unit does appear to lose a bit of grip while exiting the corners but its ability to maintain composure and not slide off the course is something to admire considering the chassis and body was initially developed for going fast on tarmac only.
The Sterrato was first shown to us in 2019 with a confirmed power output of 640 horsepower. To make it better equipped for various terrains, the Huracan engineers have remapped the supercar’s drive system so that it can adopt the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) controller. This manages the output of the four-wheel drive and steering.
The LDVI will also be used to manage the reworked suspension setup (which sits 0.3-inches taller than the standard car) and torque vectoring so that it can deliver more bias to the rear for easier oversteering maneuvers, as seen in this video. The designers have also shaved one percent off the car’s approach angle while the rear’s has been increased by 6.5 percent.
Shortly after the car was revealed, Lamborghini chief technical officer Maurizio Reggiani said that the brand was enthusiastic about bringing the Sterrato to production. He also hinted that the production-ready model could benefit from modern durable panels that are formed with a lightweight synthetic material.
The brand has been quiet regarding an official release of this product but late last year, it was rumored that Lamborghini would be introducing more limited edition models of the Huracan that are set to follow the STO. This decision is being made so that the supercar can go out with a series of big bangs before being replaced by a new generation model.
