Volkswagen India has announced that it has started deliveries of the new Tiguan to customers. Built on VW’s MQB-platform the new Volkswagen Tiguan is the facelifted version and comes with cosmetic tweaks to the exterior and interior as well as some added features.
The car is priced at Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and is offered in a single trim named ‘Elegance’ available only in petrol. Rivals of the VW Tiguan in India include the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass. Volkswagen also says that the car is now sold out for Q1, 2022 i.e. January-March 2022.

Commenting on the announcement, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “Within a month from its launch, the new Tiguan has garnered significant attention from customers, wherein the SUVW is sold-out for Q1, 2022. It is a testament to the customer appeal and appreciation of this global SUVW. With the commencement of deliveries, we are eager to see our customers drive this true stunner.”
Visually the differences to the discontinued Tiguan and the AllSpace are subtle. The headlamps now house new LED matrix lighting that not only provides much superior illumination but looks sharper too. There’s a new front bumper and a tweaked grille. Rear bumper has been changed, the taillamps are LED, and Tiguan lettering is placed on the tailgate. The SUV sits on 18-inch alloy wheels. It is available in seven colour options.
Tiguan’s cabin is modernised, climate control buttons have been replaced with a touch panel while the instrumentation is handled by a 10-inch fully digital display. The infotainment screen is an 8-inch unit and offers gesture controls too. The new three-spoke steering has shift paddles and heating function. Other features include panoramic sunroof, 3-zone climate control, second-row 40:20:40 split, 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, ambient lighting, electric tailgate and many others. Safety features include six airbags, ABS, ESP, Hill start assist, hill descent assist, Tyre pressure monitor system, ISOFIX anchors and others.
Volkswagen has moved to an only-petrol portfolio, so the Tiguan gets a 2.0-litre TSI that is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. It produces 190bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. Additionally, 4MOTION is a part of the package and makes the Volkswagen Tiguan the only petrol-powered 4WD vehicle in its class. The driving modes on offer change the behaviour of the power delivery and suspension.
