Looming all-wheel drive model shortage forces a stop-sale on iconic VW hot hatch and key Tiguan variants
Volkswagen Australia has stopped taking orders for VW Tiguan 132TSI, 147TDI, 162TSI and R variants along with the halo VW Golf R and Golf R Wagon due to component shortages and increasing consumer demand.
The German brand says that while Tiguan stock and supply is strong for now, a shortage of 4MOTION all-wheel drive components is anticipated to hit cause major supply issues from the second quarter of this year.
Similar to Hyundai, which is encouraging aspiring i30 N hot hatch owners to consider an i30 Sedan N or Kona N, Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Director Michal Szeniecki has suggested Tiguan shoppers look into the smaller VW T-Roc range which is in plentiful supply.

“Volkswagen is in a strong position for Tiguan 132TSI, Tiguan 162TSI Monochrome and Tiguan Allspace Adventure deliveries in the first quarter of this year, before 4MOTION deliveries are impacted in the second quarter,” he said.
“It became increasingly important to balance this with improved Tiguan 110TSI Life and Tiguan R supply.

“The 1000 Tiguan R orders will be assisted by this, while additional T-Roc and T-Roc R stock will help balance continuing restrictions on Golf.”
This announcement comes just days after the German brand detailed its plan to counter supply constraints with special-editions like the Tiguan Monochrome and Golf R Grid Edition.

It also comes amid unprecedented shipping delays due to quarantine backlogs at almost all Australian arrival ports.
The local demand for R products has seen Australia become one of the world’s top markets for the German performance car portfolio and, in the case of the Tiguan R, the number one market.
But while the crux of today’s announcement is bit of a bummer – especially for performance fans – Volkswagen Australia says there’s still strong supply of the Passat wagon and Alltrack, Arteon and Touareg, while the Tiguan Monochrome and Tiguan Allspace Adventure are also in stock now.
