Volkswagen has increased the price of its five-seat Tiguan midsize SUV across the range with some variants up by $1500.
The recent increase has seen the price of entry climb to $42,690 before on-road costs, marking a $3000 increase since the mid-life facelift was introduced to Australia early last year.

Increases of $800 have been seen for the Tiguan Life while the more premium Elegance and R-Line grades have seen prices jump by $1500 and $1700 respectively.
Pitched as a more premium take on the mainstream midsize SUV genre, the Tiguan competes against the likes of the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4.
Price rises across the industry
Volkswagen is among a multitude of manufacturers that have recently increased pricing, including Subaru who announced an $800 increase for its Outback wagon, Impreza small car and XV small SUV citing pressures brought on by the rising cost of logistics and manufacturing.
A limited supply of semiconductors and the knock-on effect of the invasion of Ukraine has been broadly blamed for price rises and extensive waitlists customers are facing not just in Australia but also most international markets.

What does each grade of the Tiguan include?
Volkswagen offers the entry-level Tiguan Life with a 1.4-litre 110TSI and 2.0-litre 132TSI turbo-petrol four-cylinder engines making 110kW/250Nm and 132kW/320Nm respectively.
The 110TSI uses a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that feeds power to the front wheels while the 132TSI and all other engine options are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch and feature an all-wheel-drive system.
Tiguan Elegance and R-Line grades can be paired with a choice of two 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, with the 147TDI turbo-diesel producing 147kW/400Nm while the 162TSI turbo-petrol churns out 162kW/350Nm.
A 9.2-inch touchscreen comes as standard in the Tiguan Elegance and R-Line grades
The 2021 facelift for the Tiguan ushered in a range of new standard features including a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display across the range.
As standard, the entry-level Tiguan Life is fitted with an 8.0-inch touchscreen featuring built-in navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto – in addition to other equipment such as three-zone climate control.
Safety is largely standard across the Tiguan range with front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and a reversing camera all included.
Vienna leather-appointed trim is offered higher in the range
Stepping up to the Tiguan Elegance adds Vienna leather-appointed trim with heating in the front seats and steering wheel, along with a 9.2-inch touchscreen and adaptive dampers.
The Tiguan R-Line wears a unique bodykit with 20-inch alloy wheels, along with a more sporting interior and a power tailgate.
Volkswagen has recently ushered in the flagship Tiguan R which borrows much of the same hardware from the Mk 8 Golf R with outputs boosted to 235kW/400Nm.
