Even though the all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC has already been unveiled globally, the X253 generation hasn’t quite reached end-of-life yet here on our side of the world yet, as Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has just unveiled the C253 GLC 300e Coupe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) here in Malaysia, now retailing at RM398,888 with the SST exemptions having expired.
In terms of appearance, there really isn’t all that much to pick it apart from the GLC 300 Coupe that was launched here in Malaysia back in 2019. Both variants wear the same AMG Line exterior package headlined by the AMG diamond pin grille, 20-inch five twin-spoke alloys, as well as the AMG Night package that darkens the window surrounds; the only way to differentiate the two are the variant-specific badgings, alongside the charging port on the rear bumper.
It’s also the same story inside, with the only difference being the EQ-specific displays on the dual 10.25-inch screens atop the dashboard.
The main highlight here is, of course, the PHEV powertrain underneath the bonnet, which combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine with a single electric motor, for a combined system output of 320 hp and 700 Nm.
The output figure translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds, onward to a top speed of 230 km/h (140 km/h in EV mode). The 13.5 kWh pack provides an EV driving range of 43 km, and can be charged in roughly 1.5 hours using the 7.4 kW on-board AC.
