Facelifted GT3 range spotted testing in Sweden with subtle rear aero tweaks and carryover front bumpers
We’ve already seen loosely-disguised 992.2-series Porsche 911 Carreras, Cabriolets and Turbos development testing in a rather frosty Sweden, but our spy photographers have now snapped a trio of facelifted Porsche 911 GT3s undergoing intense cold-weather testing.
What makes it all the more interesting is that one of them is the wingless Touring version and all three seem to follow a similar recipe to the updated 911 variants seen previously in terms of their camouflage and suspected upgrades.
Like the recently spotted Turbos, the new GT3 prototypes are still flaunting their pre-facelift front bumper designs, with most of the cosmetic changes happening at the rear, where you’ll notice new and repositioned air outlets, a deeper numberplate recess and some subtle changes to the lower diffuser.
Few if any major mechanical changes are expected to be made to the GT3’s sonorous 4.0-litre non-turbo flat-six, meaning the large-capacity free-breathing boxer engine should continue to scream out 375kW/475Nm and redline at a glorious 9000rpm.
Our sources tell us transmission choices will continue to comprise both the familiar six-speed manual and seven-speed ‘PDK’ dual-clutch automatic.
Beyond the rear aero tweaks and basic camouflaging there’s very little to report about the GT3 prototypes, given they aren’t fitted with their productions-spec front fascias that will likely debut closer to the model’s public debut.
Like the rest of the yet-to-be-revealed 992.2-series range, the 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 is expected to pair its new styling with an updated cabin design rumoured to be focused around the rollout of a digital instrument cluster.
That should gift owners the ability to configure their preferred display and toggle between set-ups depending on the driving circumstance, such as commuting or track-day shenanigans.
We wouldn’t be at all surprised if the GT3’s virtual cockpit takes on a more focused design with more sharper graphics and bespoke colourways reflective of its track-focussed persona and intent.
There’s been no word yet as to when the facelifted GT3 will break cover officially, but the updated core variants are tipped to emerge later this year – several months ahead of the Turbo and GT versions.
