2023 Mini Hatchback: what is it?
It has been over 20 years since BMW introduced the modern Mini, and it has seen incredible success with the little car. 2023 will see an all-new generation of Mini hit the road, and we’ve seen a camouflaged test mule for the first time.
The car is still recognisably Mini with its large round headlights and compact proportions. Those characterful lights have grown in size and the windscreen appears more rakish than before, but it’s already clear the new model will take an evolutionary approach to design.
Interestingly, we do know that a smaller Mini model is also in the works.
2023 Mini Hatchback: what is it powered by?
Unusually for a car that’s just started testing, Mini has confirmed some details about its 2023 model. It will continue to offer combustion engines as an entry-level proposition, and in markets that still allow the sale of new petrol cars. Expect to see a turbocharged three-cylinder unit alongside a four-cylinder for faster models.
The Mini Electric is set to return and will eventually make up the bulk of these Oxford-built cars. John Cooper Works is already hard at work on its first EV hot hatchback, but a successor to the current Cooper S electric hatch is at the forefront of next-gen plans.
2023 Mini Hatchback: when will it be on sale?
Expect to see the all-new Mini hatchback launch in the first quarter of 2023. The lineup is planned to include Cooper and Cooper S combustion cars, but also a selection of EVs that encompasses an electric JCW performance model.
Order books should open soon after the all-new Mini’s official reveal.
2023 Mini Hatchback: how much will it cost?
How much the all-new Mini will cost obviously depends on which variant you look at. Combustion cars will more than likely be the cheapest, estimated at around £19k. EVs naturally cost more due to their battery tech, and looking at the current Mini Electric’s price tag, £28,000 is a respectable guess.
