2022 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: what is it?
It's the most extreme version of Porsche's Cayman, the GT4 RS. It will sit at the top of the range above the entry-level four-cylinder 718 and 4.0-litre flat-six GTS and GT models.
It's likely the RS will have the most power and, judging by these pictures, a more comprehensive aero package. That's all needed to ensure it gets around a racetrack in a shorter time than any Cayman ever has before.
This will be the first time Porsche has applied its RS badge to a Cayman, a moniker it usually reserves for its iconic 911.
2022 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: what is it powered by?
The Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is likely to be powered by the same 4.0-litre, six-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine as the GTS and GT4 models.
However, it is almost certainly going to get slightly more power than those models. Between 450 and 500hp is likely.
It's unclear what gearbox will be standard, but a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and six-speed manual are available with the Cayman and will probably be offered here too.
Our spires have noticed different configurations of the GT4 RS being tested, but features such as centre-lock alloy wheels and that huge swan neck spoiler have been seen. Both these comes straight from the 911 GT3.
And on that note, Porsche needs to be careful: the Cayman GT4 RS could quite easily outgun its heavier stablemate on track. Too much power and aero and suddenly the pricier 911 could be the slower car.
2022 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: when will it be on sale?
There have been no confirmed dates for the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS's launch yet, but we expect it to be revealed to the public in the next few months.
It's unlikely that it will be produced in limited numbers, too, because demand is so strong for its GT products that Porche has never had to worry about such things.
2022 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: how much will it cost?
Prices are yet to be announced for the GT4, but it's clear it'll be the most expensive model in the Porsche Cayman range.
Currently, the Cayman GT4 costs from £76,530, so it's not foolish to assume the RS could exceed £100,000 when it goes on sale.
