Triumph recently unveiled the Speed 400 motorcycle, and this motorcycle is expected to soon hit Indian roads. Though the Bajaj Dominar 400 may not look like a rival to the Triumph Speed 400, it is the closest motorcycle to the Speed 400 in terms of specifications.
Furthermore, both the Bajaj Dominar 400 and Triumph Speed 400 motorcycles are manufactured by Bajaj Auto. As such, here is a quick comparison between the Triumph Speed 400 and Bajaj Dominar 400.
Design
This is where the biggest differences between the Triumph Speed 400 and Bajaj Dominar 400 motorcycle lie. While the Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle is a neo-retro-themed motorcycle, the Bajaj Dominar 400 looks more like a power cruiser motorcycle.
As such, both motorcycles can’t be compared in terms of design and it generally boils down to an individual’s preferences. That being said, the Triumph Speed 400 looks a lot more premium.
Powertrain
The upcoming Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle uses a 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC, oversquare engine. This engine is tuned to produce 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm.
On the other hand, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.3cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine. This engine is tuned to produce 39.5bhp at 8,800rpm and 35Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
In terms of gearbox, both the Bajaj Dominar 400 and Triumph Speed 400 motorcycles come equipped with a 6-speed gearbox for effortless cruising. On top of that, both motorcycles are equipped with Slip & Clutch.
Chassis & Suspension
The Bajaj Dominar 400 motorcycle uses a Beam-type perimeter frame and cast swingarm. Also, the Dominar 400 uses 43mm USD forks at the front with 135mm of wheel travel, whereas a monshock with 110mm of wheel travel handles the suspension duties at the rear.
In comparison, the Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle comes equipped with a tubular steel perimeter frame with bolt-on rear subframe and a twin-sided cast aluminium swingarm. While the suspension duty is taken care of by 43mm USD forks at the front (140mm) and a gas-charged monoshock with an external reservoir at the rear (130mm).
Dimensions & Weight
The Bajaj Dominar 400 measures 2,156mm long, 863mm wide, 1,243mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of 1,453mm. Other than that, the motorcycle uses 110/70 R17 tyres at the front and 150/60 R17 tyres at the rear. Also, the whole motorcycle weighs 193kg.
On the other hand, the Triumph Speed 400 measures 2,056mm long, 795mm wide, 1,075mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of 1,377mm. Other than that, the Triumph Speed 400 also uses the same tyres as the Bajaj Dominar 400 but the whole motorcycle weighs 23kg lighter.
Brakes
In terms of braking, the Bajaj Dominar 400 motorcycle comes equipped with a single 320mm disc brake at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. In comparison, the Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle uses a smaller 300mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear.
