British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has launched the recently revealed Speed 400 & Scrambler 400 X in India. The Triumph Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Scrambler 400 X’s price will be announced at a later date. The first 10,000 customers will get an introductory discount of Rs 10,000.
The Triumph Speed 400 will be available to customers by the second half of July. The Triumph Scrambler 400 X will be made available to customers in October.
The Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X were revealed to the world on the 27th of June. India is the first market that these two new Triumph motorcycles have launched thanks to the British firm’s partnership with Bajaj.
Both the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and Speed 400 are powered by an all-new ‘TR’ series single-cylinder engine. The new four-valve, DOHC, 398.15cc single features oil cooling and fuel injection and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox.
The Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X’s new engine produces 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine features a stainless steel header and silencer setup. Both bikes get a slipper clutch.
Both the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X feature the same hybrid spine/perimeter tubular steel frame setup along with a bolt-on rear subframe.
At the front, both bikes feature 43mm upside down big piston forks, while at the rear, the duo get a gas-charged monoshock and a twin-sided, cast aluminium alloy swingarm.
Where the bikes differ is the amount of wheel travel on offer. The Triumph Speed 400 offers 140mm of wheel travel at the front and 130mm at the rear. The Scrambler 400 X, on the other hand, offers 150mm of wheel travel at both ends.
Another place the bikes differ is the brakes. The Speed 400 sports a 300mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. The Scrambler 400 X increases the size of the front brake to a 320mm unit.
Both bikes have 4-piston brake callipers and a single brake calliper at the rear. Both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X also get dual-channel ABS.
The wheels and tyres are where the two bikes differ again. The Speed 400 sports 17-inch spoked wheels shod with Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres – 110/70 (front) and 150/60 (rear).
The Scrambler 400 X sports a staggered wheel setup shod with Metzeler Karoo Street – 19 inches at the front and a 17-inch at the rear. The wheels are shod with 100/90 (front) and 140/80 (rear) tyres.
Both bikes feature the classic Triumph design, including the distinct silhouette, sculpted tank with knee inserts, finned head with header clamps and upswept silencer.
Both bikes feature circular headlamps with distinct LED DRLs and taillights. The instrumentation is a unique semi-digital setup with an analogue speedometer and a full-feature rectangular LCD display.
Both bikes feature switchable traction control, torque-assist clutch, Bosch ABS, and LED lighting, along with a steering lock and an anti-theft immobiliser as standard.
Triumph is offering a two-year, unlimited mileage warranty for both bikes. The service interval for both bikes is 10,000 miles (16,000km).
