Toyota has finally confirmed that it will produce a Toyota GR Supra that will feature a manual transmission following years of rumour and speculation.
Posting an image of its three pedals on Toyota USA Twitter feed and Toyota Australia Gazoo Racing’s Instagram, no further official details have been released, but the latter seems to confirm it will be offered Down Under with the “You’ve spoken… And we’ve listened! An all-new Toyota GR Supra Manual Transmission is coming” caption.
Following early leaks out of Japan over the three-pedal GR Supra, production is tipped to start as soon as this July, hinting the six-speed manual Toyota coupe could be on sale before the end of this year, with an October launch already suggested.
Thought to have been created in response to the upcoming Nissan Z, the DIY shifter is rumoured to be only offered with the inline six-cylinder powertrain.
If so, the ‘box will be combined with the turbocharged 3.0-litre that produces 285kW and 498Nm of torque – although the latter might exceed the manual’s torque limit and could be wound back to around 450Nm. Helping differentiate it from the rest of the GR Supra range the manual version is tipped for a new chassis tune tailored for hard-core enthusiasts, a second picture tease also reveals it will get red ‘Supra’ badging.
Primed for an April 28 unveiling, stay tuned as Toyota is expected to release more teases in the build-up to the manual GR Supra’s reveal.
