Toyota has released more details about the four-cylinder GR Supra 2.0 that it is set to sit below the V6-engined model currently on sale. The new car was due to hit showrooms in March, though the coronavirus pandemic has pushed deliveries back indefinitely.
While the Japanese carmaker has already taken the covers off the Europe-destined Supra 2.0, we’ve only seen the limited-run Fuji Edition of the four-pot sports car. Now we’ve been given a glimpse at the standard version, which comes with a few minor design tweaks.
To start with, the wheels are slightly smaller at 18 inches, and the diameter of the exhaust has shrunk by 10mm. Eagled-eyed fans will also notice that the tailpipe is finished in chrome, as opposed to the stainless steel system on the V6 model.
Mechanically, the standard four-cylinder Supra is the same as the Fuji Edition. Drivers get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine developing 255bhp and 400Nm of torque, about 80bhp less than the V6 model. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF gearbox, which will get you from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds – 0.9 seconds shy of the V6.
When you like the prospect of a four-pot Supra or not, it won’t be coming to the UK. So you’ll have to settle for the £52,000 V6 Supra instead.
