They say that the Prancing Horse is the world’s most recognised logo, with the Scudaria’s shield conjuring imagery of scarlet cars dominating throughout history. It’s fair to say that Ferrari has more rivals today than ever before, but the marque’s prestige is something hard earned and jealously protected.
Ferraris are not all about top speed, but it is undoubtedly the Top Trump question most owners will be asked. Here’s the top 10 fastest Ferrari supercars of all-time – a few might even surprise you.
10. Ferrari F8 Tributo: 211mph
The Ferrari F8 Tributo is the successor to the 488, and serves as the Italian manufacturer’s bread and butter mid-engined model. That said, there’s nothing everyday about its twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 engine. 710bhp rockets this car from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds, and it won’t stop until it hits 211mph.
9. Ferrari 812 GTS: 211mph
If you love the 812 Superfast but need a GT that allows you to feel the wind in your hair, a GTS might just be what you are looking for. Under that lengthy bonnet is a 789bhp 6.5-litre V12 engine, a naturally aspirated motor that encapsulates what is so special about Ferrari’s V12s.
Drop the roof in 14 seconds and rocket your way to 211mph alfresco.
8. Ferrari 812 Superfast: 211mph
The Ferrari 812 Superfast is the Prancing Horse’s flagship front-engined V12 car at this moment in time. Building upon the success of the F12 Berlinetta, this GT plays host to the same glorious 789bhp V12 engine as its GTS convertible sibling.
Ferrari officially states that this car has the same 211mph top speed as the GTS, but it stands to reason that it might actually be a few mph faster due to weighing less.
7. Ferrari 488 Pista: 211mph
The swan song to Ferrari’s first turbocharged mid-engine V8 since the F40, the Pista offers the familiar recipe of more power with less weight. This 710bhp track-focused Ferrari might lack the naturally aspirated V8 of its predecessor, but the new twin-turbocharged unit would happily get it from 0-62mph just 3 seconds.
V-max is quoted as being 211mph, something proven in the occasional YouTube video. Fans of drop-tops will be pleased to know that the Spider variant can clock the same top speed.
6. Ferrari SF90 Stradale: 211mph
Joining a seemingly never ending list of Ferraris that will do 211mph is something of a new breed. The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is Maranello’s first hybrid V8, and the precursor to a hybrid future for the rest of its range. While LaFerari opened this door, the SF90 boldly stepped through it with an output of 986bhp from its engine and electric motors.
It’s not just the car’s near 1,000bhp that’s impressive… This new-age supercar will crack 0-62mph in just 2.5 seconds and 0-124mph in 6.7 seconds. While the SF90’s top speed might be identical to a conventional F8 Tributo, this sheer acceleration leaves its sibling in the dust.
The Ferrari SF90 is not a limited edition car for Ferrari, instead it joins the traditional offerings found in showrooms around the world. It signifies the dawn of a new era for Ferrari and anyone who can afford its £376k price tag.
5. Ferrari Enzo: 217mph
The Ferrari Enzo will go down as one of Ferrari’s greatest-ever creations. Named after the Italian marque’s founder, the Enzo incorporated some Formula 1 know-how in order to become the dominant supercar of its era.
Its 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine produces 650bhp, while a set of advanced carbon brakes kept that performance in check. The 0-62mph sprint of 3.1 seconds and a 217mph top speed spoke volumes in 2002.
A fun fact for you… The very last Enzo was given to the Pope to auction for charity.
4. Ferrari LaFerrari: 217mph+
So good that they named it twice, this supercar marked Ferrari’s first production hybrid model. LaFerrari took on the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder with a 6.3-litre V12 and an electric motor. A total output of 950bhp gave it the credentials to serve as Ferrari’s flagship.
An Aperta convertible model was launched as part of Ferrari’s 70th birthday celebrations. It lacked a roof, but not the 217mph+ top speed.
3. Ferrari FXX-K: 217mph+
The Ferrari FXX-K is a track-only variant of LaFerrari. They are used at events by their owners to gather data for Ferrari. These rarified hybrid racers actually help develop future Ferrari products and represent the cutting-edge of the Italian manufacturer’s capability. Note that this isn’t the FXX-K EVO, as that variant receives a more aggressive aerodynamic package that boosts downforce but reduces top speed.
Ferrari officially quote the same 217mph+ top speed as the road car, but this machine is lighter and now packs 1,036bhp. We’d be very surprised if it couldn’t crack 220mph.
2. Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina: 225mph
The Ferrari not actually built by Ferrari. This car was commissioned by film producer Jim Glickenhaus. It’s based on a Ferrari Enzo, but it has been thoroughly enhanced and given coachwork inspired by the Daytona 24 winning Ferrari P3/4. Ferrari itself was so impressed with the end result that it was officially christened with a badge.
Glickenhaus later publicly fell out of love with Ferrari when he wanted to build a race variant of the P4/5, but this supercar remains an astonishing creation – a fast one too at 225mph.
1. Ferrari FXX Evoluzione: 249mph
Who said that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. The Ferrari FXX, just like today’s FXX-K, was used as a testbed for new technologies. However, this car was based on the old king, the Ferrari Enzo. This machine evolved over the years and eventually became the 249mph Ferrari FXX Evoluzione – still the fastest Ferrari ever.
Specially selected clients could buy an FXX, but Ferrari retained all of the cars, but would send it along to a track of your choice, complete with a staff of mechanics. Data would be collected and sent back to Italy to help inform the next-generation of supercars. In fact, the work the FXX did directly influenced the design of LaFerrari.
Michael Schumacher was gifted a Ferrari FXX and his remains the only car finished in black.
