Aston Martin is one of the world’s most famous and celebrated marques. Not only has it produced the world’s most fabled fictional spy’s chosen company car over the decades, but it has also become synonymous with elegant design.
Here’s our top 10 Aston Martins of all time.
Aston Martin V12 Vantage
When Aston Martin shoehorned its biggest engine into the smallest car it produced, an icon was born. The handsome Vantage proportions proved to be the perfect home for that glorious 5.9-litre V12 engine.
The car was enhanced as the V12 Vantage S with power rising from 510bhp to 565bhp. Boundless torque, great looks, and a soundtrack to die for. What’s not to love?
Aston Martin Bulldog
You might think that the new Aston Martin Valkyrie is the British brand’s first mid-engined car, but that honour actually belongs to the Bulldog. This wedge was designed by William Towns as a 200mph supercar, but sadly it never reached its intended goal or made production.
This striking one-off is currently being restored with the intention of finally hitting 200mph.
Aston Martin One-77
Arguably the ultimate expression of what an Aston Martin is, the One-77 was designed without limitations. Serving as a halo model, its expressive shape was specially crafted by a handpicked team. Beneath its impressive bodywork lives a naturally aspirated 7.3-litre V12 engine.
This car gets its name from being one of just 77 examples produced.
Aston Martin Vulcan
Named after the Cold War bomber, the Vulcan is a track-only special that uses some of the One-77’s underpinnings. Costing £2.2 million when new, a Vulcan possesses 820bhp while weighing 1,350kg. The interior features a racing wheel and full bucket seats.
Just 24 Aston Martin Vulcans were built.
Aston Martin Victor
Again using the One-77’s bones, and by extension the Vulcan’s, the Aston Martin Victor is a one-off model and unlike the Vulcan, is totally road legal. A 7.3-litre V12 engine grants this extreme machine some 836bhp.
Incredibly, the Victor hosts a six-speed manual gearbox.
Aston Martin DB5
The most famous car in the world? Quite possibly. An evolution of the DB4 that came before it, the Aston Martin DB5 gained global fame as the gadget-laden hero of Goldfinger. Serving as the automotive personification of 007 himself, the DB5 has featured in more Bond films than any other car.
In 1997 the original car used in Goldfinger and Thunderball was stolen – it has never been recovered.
Aston Martin DBS
A new era of Bond began with Daniel Craig, and while the DB5 has a cameo, the four-wheeled action was supplied by the muscular DBS. James Bond association aside, this V12 GT car could stand on its own two feet as one of the most charismatic vehicles money could buy.
Values of manual DBS cars are on the rise.
Aston Martin DB4 Zagato
What do you get when a prime British brand partners with a famed Italian design house? A legend of course. The Aston Martin DB4 Zagato’s design went on to influence just about every Aston that followed it. This car was also famously raced in period by Jim Clark.
Just 19 examples of the Zagato were ever made.
Aston Martin DBR1
When David Brown acquired Aston Martin and wanted to go racing, it was the DBR1 that delivered. It won six World Sports Car victories with an outright win at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hour being its crowning glory.
Carroll Shelby was one of the winning Le Mans drivers in 1959.
Aston Martin Valkyrie
It’s had a difficult birth, but let’s stop and appreciate that Aston Martin created a mid-engined hypercar possessing a naturally aspirated V12 engine – it revs to 10,500rpm. The extreme aerodynamics of this machine comes thanks to fabled F1 designer Adrian Newey.
The Valkyrie produces 1,160bhp via its hybrid drivetrain.
