Well, maybe not the average person or family (yet), but if you are some sort of well-off, high-profile person that may be targeted, why not double down with a bulletproof, grenade-proof luxury sedan? The ballistic experts at Inkas have a solution for you.
Inkas unveiled its latest model, a BR6-level (one of the highest levels of protection available, apparently) armored 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class that can withstand anything from assault rifles to DM51 grenades—which can apparently either be thrown as an explosive, or with a fragmentation jacket equipped too—nasty stuff you want to keep out of the car.
Kept to original standards, this bulletproof S580 offers all-around protection while still delivering a pleasant driving experience. The innovative ballistic armor is discreet and does not alter performance, ride quality, or vehicle systems like advanced driver assistance features, Inkas says.
Everything inside remains luxurious and as expected for an S-Class, including the high-quality leather seats and top-level technology synonymous with regular Mercedes models. And if an emergency calls for your driver to lay the gas pedal flat to the floorboard, a twin-turbo V-8 generating 496 hp should shepherd you to safety.
In addition to the standard armoring, Inkas offers optional equipment and accessories for added security. Emergency-related gear includes an auxiliary thermal night vision camera, onboard oxygen supply to keep the air you breath fresh, and fire suppression systems. You can also add external strobe lights, sirens, an intercom, and a PA system if you’re that important.
A lightweight armoring package featuring door-assist technology reduces the weight of the armored doors, making it effortless to enter and exit the car. Other mechanical-based upgrades on the menu are heavy-duty brakes, with a set of heavy-duty wheels to keep up.
The new armored Mercedes-Benz S-Class by Inkas is available to order now and ships globally, including airfreight, if need be. In terms of pricing, Inkas did not divulge those details, but we’re sure these run for a large sum of money that only a trust fund can buy. A non-armored S-Class starts at $112,150; here’s what the Inkas website does say about pricing:
“The costs involved in armoring vehicles highly depend on the specific vehicle’s model, level of armoring, optional features and the amount of special protection applications/technologies requested. The armoring cost may vary from $50,000 all the way up to $500,000 and beyond.”
By the way, Inkas isn’t the only company building apocalyptic-style Benzes; it just so happens that Mercedes makes a V-12-powered version in-house, if you need the added security of more displacement and power—and have the dough to even start the conversation.
