Porsche has come to the rescue of rich jet setters who like their expensive toys to match, teaming up with private jet-maker Embraer to create a 911 that’s painted and trimmed just like the plane.
Called Duet, the project pairs Porsche’s latest 911 Turbo S with Embraer’s Phenom 300E. Both get the same two-tone silver-over-grey paint, while the Porsche’s side air intakes and side window trims are finished in Brilliant Chrome to echo the look the of the jet’s engines.
Inside the car a sign on the sill reads ‘No Step’, just like the warnings you see on plane wings. The steering wheel is finished in two-tone leather to mimic the plane’s yolk, and the seats of both the car and plane feature an embossed logo depicting a pair of wings: one for lift, and one for downforce.
To sweeten the deal, every customer buying the pair receives a Porsche Design luggage set comprising a pilot’s case and two weekender bags, plus one of 10 1919 Globetimer UTC watches from Porsche Design.
Neither machine gets anything in the way of performance upgrades, though you’re not likely to feel short-changed in that department.
The latest Turbo S makes 641bhp from it’s twin-charged 3.8-litre flat six, a healthy increase of 69bhp over the already potent standard Turbo. That’s enough to fire it to 62mph in 2.7sec and on to a top speed of 205mph.
Not bad, but the plane is even faster. Embraer doesn’t quote a 0-62mph time, but it does claim the Phenom 300E’s 533mph top sped and 2010 nautical mile range means it’ll go faster and further than any other single-pilot jet a huge amount of money will buy.
And exactly how much money are we talking? An ordinary Turbo S will set you back £155,970, but if you want one of the 10 available Duet pairings of Porsche and plane, get ready to part with around £8.3m.
