The American Dream has broken its own record and is now the longest car in the world again!
The longest car in the world, The American Dream is now back to its glory after being restored and breaking its own record. The American Dream was not only famous but also featured in a number of movies.
It was however extremely expensive to rent and maintain, thus was left on the road to rot. Seeing the condition of the car, Michael Manning bought it from eBay and thus began the restoration journey of this legend.
The American Dream was built originally in 1986 by car customiser Jay Ohrberg in California’s Burbank. At that time, it measured about 60 feet in length. The car however now measures 100 feet in length after the platform was extended by 40 feet, thus making it the longest car in the world. For reference, the length is the same as six Honda City sedans parked back to back in a line and still leaving some space at the end.
In addition to its length, the American Dream also boasts a long list of features and luxuries for the occupants. For starters, there is a large waterbed, a swimming pool with a diving board, jacuzzi, mini-golf course, and a Helipad. Along with this, the car is equipped with refrigerators, a telephone, and several television sets.
For those wondering, the American Dream is based on the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado limousine and is powered by a pair of V-8 engines at the front and rear. It is built in two sections, hinged in between for maneuvering tight corners.
A restorer bought the car from eBay and began restoring it, which took three years and $2,50,000
At its peak, The American Dream appeared in many movies and was also frequently taken on rent. However, it was due to its high maintenance cost and parking issues, that people slowly lost interest and the car began to rust. Michael Manning spent about $250,000 in shipping, materials, and manpower while restoring this legend in a time frame of over three years.

Despite a full restoration, the American Dream won’t be hitting the road, as it will now be part of Dezerland Park Car Museum’s collection of unique and classic cars, a place it deserves.
