The idea that electric vehicles are boring is slowly eroding, which is solely the result of automakers and enthusiasts building exciting electric vehicles. While Tesla, Rimac, and Lotus are all working on getting huge performance numbers out of electric motors and batteries, other automakers are taking different approaches to emphasizing the fun.
Polestar, for instance, has added some spunk to its succinctly named Polestar 2 in the form of the Polestar 2 Arctic Edition.
While not as wild looking as modern-day World Rally Championship machines or their Group B predecessors, the Polestar 2 Arctic Circle nonetheless looks like a lot of fun. Powering this special Polestar is a pair of electric motors that make a combined 469 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. Feeding those motors is a 78-kWh capacity battery, which should seem familiar for fans of the Polestar 2: It’s the stock battery. You’ll still find production Polestar 2 parts at the heart of this Arctic Circle custom.
That said, this Polestar is anything but stock. Sitting on a set of 19-inch Oz Racing wheels, it’s clear that this rally-inspired Polestar isn’t stock. It’s also sitting 1.18-inches higher than the showroom-ready Polestar 2. Built with off-road conditions in mind, the Öhlins dampers and springs are softer than the standard road car’s parts. The team responsible for this Arctic Circle model also fit front and rear strut braces to help stiffen the Polestar 2’s structure. Polestar opted for the factory-fit Brembo brakes from the Performance Pack equipped Polestar 2. Adding to the rally credentials is a carbon-fiber skid plate, extra LED lighting, and no shortage of recovery mounts.
If you’re excited for this special Polestar 2 to roll into your local dealer, here’s the bad news: The Polestar 2 Arctic Circle won’t go into production. According to Polestar this is a showpiece and won’t translate into a consumer model. That said, the bones of this machine are essentially what you’ll find from a Polestar 2, which should be good news for those that like to modify cars.
