Every year car manufacturers release their best vehicles out into the market to compete for customers’ attention. While many of these cars are top tier, others are below standard. Consumer Reports help customers decide which vehicle is worth the hype and would be a waste of money. For the 10 Top Picks of 2022, Consumer Reports made a special category for the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime because it’s just that good.
Various name brand vehicles made it to Consumer Reports best cars of the year list

Every year Consumer Reports compiles a list of the top 10 best cars to help its readers and customers find the best vehicle in the market. For a car to fall in the top 10 list, it has to have the highest Overall Score in its category.
The score factors in variables like predicted reliability, road tests, owner satisfaction, and safety, among other things. The vehicle must also come standard in all trims with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and forward collision. All these are features the site believes are essential because they have proven time and time again to save lives.
This year, Consumer Reports added the highway-speed AEB and gave two additional points to a car’s Overall Score if the vehicle had an active driver assistance system. The Ford Mustang Mach-E was the only vehicle on the publication’s list that got the additional points. Its active-driver-assist system offered appropriate warnings when the driver looked away for too long.
The qualification ultimately locked out other high-scoring vehicles like the Hyundai Tucson and the BMW X5. Consumer Reports did not include large trucks in this year’s list due to their lack of key safety features or less than average reliability.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime ranked highly on the list
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime received a glowing review from Consumer Reports due to its features. At a glance, the 2022 model doesn’t look any different from its 2021 sibling. This is because Toyota didn’t make crazy changes to the 2022 model. Still, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime received a modern appearance while elevating its new trim even with its minor upgrades.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime took the lead in the Two-Row SUV category on Consumer Reports‘ 10 Top Picks of 2022 list due to its efficiency, power, and comfort while riding in the vehicle. This plug-in hybrid can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 7 seconds, which is impressive. The car also has an automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, thus enhancing its safety.
Consumer Reports loved the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime so much that they made up a category so that it could win an award. The Subaru Forester and the 2022 RAV4 Prime are both compact SUVs. But since the Subaru Forester had already taken the prize in the Small SUV category, Consumer Reports decided to create another category, the Two-Row SUV, to allow the RAV4 Prime to take something home.
This is evident because the previous list, the 10 Top Picks of 2021, didn’t have the Two-Row SUV category, meaning the RAV4 Prime stole a spot on the list.
The 2022 Toyota Camry failed to beat out the Accord for the 2022 model year
The 2022 Toyota Camry won the Top Midsize Sedan spot in Consumer Reports’ 2021 10 Top Picks list. The site lauded it for its optional V6 motor. Car manufacturers have underpowered many midsize sedans, but the Camry’s 300 horsepower V6 proves it has that covered. However, the Honda Accord took the spot from Camry in the 10 Top Picks of 2022 due to its driving capability, up-to-date infotainment, and CVT transmission.
