The Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular vehicles on sale today and competes in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment here in Australia.
A previous winner of Chasing Cars Midsize SUV Megatest in 2022, the RAV4 has attracted a wide range of fans thanks to its broad spectrum of talents including frugal fuel consumption, relatively affordable pricing, a practical interior and impressive driving dynamics.

July 1, 2023: price increases across the range
As of July 1st, Toyota Australia has adjusted its prices for its popular RAV4 model, with the midsize SUV now slightly more expensive than before.
Since our last update in January 2023, the cost of entry into a Toyota RAV4 has increased by $3210 for the entry GX 2WD petrol. The highest grade, the Edge AWD hybrid, has also increased by $3210.
Pricing now starts from $39,760 before on-road costs for the entry GX 2WD petrol, and expands to as much as $58,360 before on-road costs for the Edge AWD Hybrid.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Edge Hybrid
The Toyota RAV4 sells in big numbers here in Australia. In June 2023, the RAV4 was the fifth best-selling car on sale, shifting 2858 units during the month.
So far in 2023, Toyota has sold 13,523 units of the RAV4, surpassing the likes of the Mitsubishi Outlander and Mazda CX-5.
What does the Toyota RAV4 include in each grade?
There are five grades to choose from when it comes to the RAV4 in Australia: GX, GXL, XSE, Cruiser and Edge.
The Toyota RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid
The first of which is the GX, which is available in either petrol or hybrid guise.
Standard equipment on the GX includes:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- 8.0-inch touchscreen
- 7.0-inch driving instrument cluster
- Six speaker sound system
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Five USB ports
- LED headlights
- Front LED fog lights
- Rain sensing wipers
- Four cup holders
- DAB radio
- Leather steering wheel
- Cloth seat upholstery
RAV4s are available with either petrol or hybrid drivetrains
Toyota safety sense is also standard across the range and includes:
- Lane departure alert
- Lane trace assist
- Pre-collision safety system with pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection
- Intersection turn assist
- Emergency steering assist
- Road sign assist
- Automatic high beam
- Active cruise control (all speeds)
Jumping up into the GXL grade, owners gain the above features, plus:
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Premium gear lever
- Roof rails
- Smart entry and smart start
- Wireless phone charging
Hybrid power is a Toyota staple
Next up is the XSE grade that adds in addition to the above features:
- Projector LED headlights
- Unique XSE styling pack including door mouldings, exterior mirrors, fog lamp details, front and rear bumper design and a two-toned roof
- Softex seat upholstery
- Driver and front passenger heated seats
- 10-way powered driver seat
- Power tailgate
- A larger 12.3-inch instrument cluster
- A larger 10.5-inch centre touchscreen
Next up in the RAV4 range is the Cruiser, which gains:
- Parabolic LED lights with self levelling function
- Premium bumper and grille
- Leather accented upholstery
- Ambient cabin lighting
- Driver’ seat memory function
- Automatic retractable side mirrors
- Larger nine speaker JBL sound system

Finally, the Edge gains the following features over the Cruiser variant:
- Unique Edge design bumper, wheel arch moulding, grille and fog light surrounds
- Softex seat trim
