Buying a motorhome sounds like the perfect plan for retirement, or for people who love making long trips in luxury and comfort. The only downside is that you can’t really enjoy driving a heavyweight truck on B-roads as you would do with a proper sportscar, but Wuppertal-based Volkner Mobil came up with a solution to this problem as their latest $1.85 million (€1.6 million) motorhome can fit a Porsche.
The Volkner Mobil Performance S was recently featured on Enes Yilmazer’s YouTube channel, who gives us a detailed tour of both the exterior and the interior of the motorhome.
The most striking feature is the fact that under the cabin you can fit a normal-sized vehicle. This was made possible by the H-shaped steel frame of the truck, the steel floor plate that slides in and out with the help of hydraulics, and the steel legs raising the whole vehicle in order for the car to come out. The owner of this motorhome ordered it to fit his Mini Hatch, but as exhibited in the presentation video a Porsche 911.2 Turbo S Cabriolet can also fit quite nicely. The same space in combination with the motorized awning can be used for an outdoor seating area in case you are bored of packing and unpacking.
Overall, the motorhome looks like a mix between a truck and a bus thanks to the boxy shape, the large windshield, and the headlights borrowed from the Mercedes Actros. The vehicle measures 12 m (39.4 feet) long, 2.5 m (8.2 feet) wide, and 3.85 m (12.6 feet) tall while the overall weight is a massive 18 tons (36,000 pounds). As for the powertrain, a rear-mounted Volvo-sourced diesel engine produces 460 hp and is combined with a 350-liter fuel tank for a decent amount of driving range.
Despite having a garage in the middle, the Performance S is quite roomy and still has plenty of storage. Thanks to a 0.5 m deep and 10 m wide slide-out, interior space can be increased from 30 square meters (23 square feet) to 35 square meters (377 square feet) when the vehicle is stationary.
Inside, both seats at the front are heated and cooled with a massaging function and the ability to rotate by 360 degrees. The vehicle comes fitted with adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and emergency brake for safer driving on the highway. Behind the driver, there is a disappearing workspace for the times you’ll need to touch base with your job while on the road.
Then there is a seating area with a dining table, a motorized TV, plenty of storage cabinets, built-in speakers, LED lighting, and a couple of large awning windows. Next to it, there is a full-size kitchen with every appliance you’ll ever need including stoves, oven, fridge, and dishwasher.
Moving further back you’ll come across a spacious bathroom featuring a heated toiled, a walking shower, and a large sink with mirrors. What is weird is that under the sink there is room for two extra beds, hidden behind cupboards. The vehicle has enough space for an 800-lt fresh water tank, a 600-lt blackwater tank, and a 300-lt toilet tank.
Last but not least, at the back of the motorhome there is the main sleeping area with a double bed, mirrors, more cabinets, awning windows, and starlight. Besides the diesel engine, power for the appliances is generated by 2,400 kW solar panels mounted on the roof that’s stored in 1,800 Amp battery packs.
While the $1.85 million (€1.6 million) price tag of this specific motorhome sounds extremely expensive, the ability to travel anywhere in the world with your family, most of your personal belongings, and your favorite car sounds quite appealing. Another version of the same model was displayed a few months ago at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, priced at an even more expensive €2.035 million ($2.4 million) and it could fit a Bugatti Chiron inside the garage.
