Circa-$2000 price hike across the range for incoming MY23 Subaru Forester due in final quarter
Subaru Australia has announced pricing of its 2023 Subaru Forester line-up, which is set to reach showrooms in the final quarter of this year and will bring with it a hefty price increase of between $1900 and $2150, depending on the model.
The increases mean the Subaru Forester is no longer a sub-$36,000 vehicle, with prices for the mid-size SUV now starting from $37,890 plus on-road costs for the entry-level 2.5i AWD and topping out at $49,340 for the flagship Hybrid S AWD.
Like other brands currently upping their prices at the moment, Subaru has attributed the hikes to the increasing “costs associated with production and logistics”, which includes materials and shipping.
In terms of specific increases, the 2.5i AWD, 2.5i-L AWD and the Hybrid L AWD have all risen $1900 while the 2.5i Premium AWD has climbed $1950.
None of these variants have any extra features to help wash the increases down.
The same can’t be said for the 2.5i Sport AWD, 2.5i-S AWD and the Hybrid S AWD, which have each nabbed a new auto-dimming rear-view mirror in return for a price increase of up to $2150.
The only other change made within the range is the new ‘Sapphire Blue Pearl’ paint on the 2.5i Sport, replacing the MY22 ‘Dark Blue Pearl’.
“With seven variants available across the range including two hybrids, all built with advanced technology, safety, comfort and off-road sureness, Forester remains an integral part of the overall Subaru model line-up and continues to sit confidently in that popular mid-size SUV category,” said Subaru Australia managing director Blair Read.
Even with supply bottlenecks, the Forester remains Subaru’s best-selling model this year with 4866 units delivered to the end of May.
However, this is down 23 per cent compared to the same period last year.
All non-electrified Forester are powered by a 2.5-litre flat four-cylinder engine good for 136kW/239Nm, with drive distributed to all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission.
The mild-hybrids rely on a 110kW/196Nm 2.0-litre flat-four engine.
