Automotive giant Stellantis has unveiled its plans to produce only new battery electric vehicles from 2027, including the promoise of a new electric Jeep SUV and a RAM electric ute.
Stellantis’ CEO Carlos Tavares hosted a lengthy presentation on Tuesday, unveiling the company’s Dare Forward 2030 strategy for the coming decade that includes plans to reach carbon net zero emissions by 2038.
Stellantis is targeting 100% of all sales in Europe and 50% of all sales in the United States to be battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by the end of this decade, with more than 75 BEVs and global annual sales of five million BEVs by 2030.
Its premium and luxury brands – including Alfa Romeo, DS, Lancia, and Maserati – will begin launching only BEVs as of 2025, which will then expand to all Stellantis brands by 2027. Further, 100% of all sales from the company’s premium and luxury brands will be 100% BEV by 2030.
Amidst Tavares’ presentation – which covered not only the company’s sustainability credentials, but also its planned financial goals – was the announcement of two new battery electric vehicles.
“Today, we are thrilled to present the Jeep brand’s first-ever fully electric SUV launching in early 2023 and a preview of the new Ram 1500 BEV pickup truck arriving in 2024,” said Tavares.
“Our journey is fuelled by a focus on innovation and engineering excellence that will put the latest technology into all our vehicles – from the most affordable to the high-performance and luxury – all offered through the extensive product portfolio of our incredible and unique house of brands.”
The new all-electric Jeep SUV will be the brand’s first ever 100% battery electric vehicle and is currently set to be launched early 2023.
In addition to presenting the new Jeep, Tavares also teased the new Ram 1500 BEV pickup truck, which is set to launch in 2024.
According to Tavares, the new BEV Ram 1500 pickup “will outperform all competitors on the attributes customers care most about: range, towing, payload, charge time.” The Ram 1500 will be built on top of the company’s STLA Frame architecture which has been designed specifically for full-size BEVs.
“Dare Forward 2030 inspires us to become so much more than we’ve ever been,” Tavares said. “We are expanding our vision, breaking the limits and embracing a new mindset, one that seeks to transform all facets of mobility for the betterment of our families, communities and the societies in which we operate.
“Powered by our diversity, Stellantis leads the way the world moves by delivering innovative, clean, safe, and affordable mobility solutions.”
