The upstart brand Polestar, a company with ties to Sweden and seeking to bring some all-electric heat to the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Audi, is pushing ahead boldly with its product offensive. Our spies have caught this vehicle, presumed to be the Polestar 5, at a secret test track across the pond.
So secret, in fact, the background in these images has been removed for maximum stealth. Don’t say we don’t go through extra length for you, dear reader. As for the car itself, this test mule is likely the upcoming Polestar 5, a machine for which patents were uncovered by Internet sleuths just a few short days ago. Looking for all the world like a thumb in the eye to machines like the slinky Audi A7, this test mule seems to have a hatchback — but not wagon or crossover — shape which will surely appeal to the moneyed set who prioritize style over cargo space.

While the eye-crossing camo always does a good job of tricking one’s vision, it seems clear the 5 will incorporate typical Polestar styling cues like its chunky C-shaped rear lamps and slick door handles. What’s up front is anyone’s guess but since this is an EV, you can bet it will be shaped for an impressive coefficient of drag measure.
Speaking of EV propulsion, talking heads seem to agree that at least one variant of the Polestar 5 will pack world-destroying amounts of power from its electric motors, perhaps as much as 850 all-electric ponies. This would put the thing in league with some of the world’s most powerful hypercars and leave today’s 591-horse gasoline-powered RS7 Sportback on the trailer.
The brand’s upcoming Polestar 3 crossover, which will be built in the United States, will have 800V charging guts and this test mule is expected to have the same. This type of technology permits much faster charging rates than some other EVs on the road, meaning drivers can replenish their car’s electrons quickly instead of standing around and twiddling their thumbs for an hour.
