Senior Works Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, has announced that the Works Ministry will be carrying out repair works to fix federal roads that have expired service lives. Repairs are expected to be completed within a month and a half or in November.
The ministry has allocated approximately RM 3 billion to carry out the repair work. Considering the high costs involved, the Works Minister told reporters that the ministry is holding negotiations with the concessionaires.
He also said that they are also working with other ministries to plan for the construction and repair of the roads that had expired.
Fadillah also confirmed that 60 percent of federal roads in the country have expired service lives. Something that we reported back in February 2021.
Meanwhile, the minister also said that an additional allocation of RM 130 million had been approved by the Ministry of Finance earlier this month for periodic maintenance of pavements on federal roads throughout the country.
The allocations have been offered to contractors in peninsular Malaysia through 180 works worth RM 113 million while RM 17 million was handed over to contractors in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan through 17 works.
