Popular Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS hit with two separate safety recalls
Mercedes-Benz Australia has added two more entries to its growing list of recent recalls, issuing two separate nationwide product safety recalls for more than 3600 late-model large SUVs today, due to the potential for various electrical malfunctions that could lead to a vehicle fire.
The first covers a total of 3392 examples of the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS built during 2019-2020 and relates to the potentially incorrect installation of the air-conditioning drain hoses, which may result in condensation leaking into the vehicle’s interior.
Mercedes-Benz says if condensation leaks into the interior it may cause a short circuit that can lead to a vehicle fire and various electrical function errors.

Those may include the failure of the automatic emergency call (eCall) system and/or the engine limp-home mode function, or the vehicle could fail to unlock or start.
In a separate recall notice, 221 examples of the same models (Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS) built during 2018-2019 have also been called back for the same issue/s outlined above.

The German car-maker says a vehicle fire or any of the listed electrical function errors may increase the risk of an accident and/or injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.
