Stripped-out BRZ gets factory-fit roll bar, cool steelies and more; Toyota GR 86 Cup Car also available
Subaru has introduced a new Cup Car Basic model grade based on its 2022 Subaru BRZ coupe that is designed for both amateur and professional racers.
Built to specifically race in a new one-make series, the new Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic sits on black 16-inch steel wheels and is available in seven body colours.
Inside, there’s a full roll cage and a pre-installed six-point harness for the driving seats.
As part of the Cup Car Basic pack the side curtain airbags have also been removed.
Beneath the bonnet the naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre boxer four-cylinder engine carries over and produces the same 173kW/250Nm as other JDM BRZs.
Only the six-speed manual is available that comes with a standard mechanical rear limited-slip differential that has added fins for extra cooling.
Up front, there’s also an oil cooler that keeps the engine chilled during sustained track use.
For now, the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic is only available in Japan where it is priced from ¥3,338,500 ($A40,500).
Toyota is also offering a Cup Car Series based on its Toyota GR 86 that is eligible to compete in the same one-make series that kicks off from July 16 at the Fuji Speedway.
