Starting from R1,2 million, Mercedes-Benz GLC promises to continue as one of the most luxurious SUVs in the segment. With over 2,6 million of its predecessors sold, here is how the 3-model lineup intends on filling their shoes.

Since Mercedes-Benz entered the mid-size SUV segment in 2008, the GLC and its predecessor, the GLK, have sold over 2,6 million vehicles worldwide. The latest GLC will continue to embody Mercedes-Benz’s signature commitment to dynamic performance, sustainability, and luxurious design that has existed in its predecessors courtesy of innovative features such as a mild-hybrid system with 48-volt technology and an integrated starter-generator.

The GLC showcases the signature design elements of the Mercedes-Benz SUV family, including the standard Avantgarde exterior with chrome accents and a chrome-look simulated underguard. The front end features redesigned headlamps connected to the radiator grille, emphasizing the vehicle’s width. The body design combines elegance and off-road performance, with muscular wheel arches and optional wheel arch liners.
Inside, the GLC offers a modern and sporty luxury experience. The dashboard is well-structured, with a wing-like profile and a high-resolution LCD screen in front of the driver. The 11,9-inch central display seamlessly rises from the curved centre console while a 12,3-inch screen greets the driver. The door panels and seats feature a contemporary design with contoured surfaces and open-pored veneers in various finishes.
In terms of dimensions, the new GLC is 60mm longer and 4mm lower than its predecessor, providing a more dynamic appearance. Overall dimensions are 4 716 mm in length, 1 890 mm in width – the same as before. The increased length benefits the wheelbase and luggage capacity, which has significantly increased to 620 litres. The GLC also boasts improved aerodynamics, with a minimal drag coefficient of 0,29. This is further aided by several wheel designs, sized between 18- and 20-inch, are aerodynamically optimised.

The GLC offers a range of comfort features, including the Energizing package Plus, which creates a personalized atmosphere in the interior. The optional Energizing Air Control monitors air quality and filters pollutants from the air. The SUV is also equipped with a new panoramic sunroof and a simplified package logic for easier customization.
Under the bonnet, the GLC comes with systematically electrified four-cylinder engines. The mild-hybrid system with a 48-volt electrical system enables functions such as “gliding,” boost, and recuperation, resulting in significant fuel savings and smooth engine transitions. Starting with the GLC 220 d 4Matic, which comes with 145 kW and 440 N.m (and an additional 17 kW, 200 N.m boost). In the middle of the pack is the GLC 300 4Matic which boasts 190 kW and 400 N.m. The GLC 300 d 4Matic serves as most powerful with maximum outputs of 198 kW and 550 N.m.

The GLC’s suspension system combines agility and safety, with a four-link suspension at the front and a multi-link independent rear suspension. The optional Airmatic air suspension enhances comfort and off-road capabilities.
The SUV incorporates the latest driver assistance systems, including Active Distance Assist Distronic and Active Steering Assist. The parking systems have been improved with more powerful sensors and visual displays, making manoeuvring easier and safer.
Optional features like Digital Light provide excellent visibility without compromising other road users’ safety. Off-road driving is also a focus for the GLC, with features such as an off-road driving mode, DSR (Downhill Speed Regulation), and a “transparent bonnet” displaying a virtual view of obstacles.
