They say the days are long, but the years are short. While 2027, on paper, is over four years away, Porsche is firing on all cylinders creating its largest-ever electric SUV, to debut some time in that year. Currently codenamed “K1” (until Porsche calls me up to think of a name) the vehicle will be “a very sporting interpretation of an SUV,” Porsche chief executive Oliver Blume told Autocar.
The public was first told about this venture in September 2022, when it was slated to run off the VW Group’s Scalable Systems Platform. Growing pains in getting the platform picture-perfect will reportedly result in Porsche now likely using an upgraded version of its Premium Platform Electric architecture instead, including a massive 920-volt electric system to boost charging speeds. Autocar rumors suggest the K1 will boast a battery pack good for over 100 kWh, with range surpassing 435 miles (700 km).
Porsche has been plugging away on this thing for the last three years, and from everything we hear, it should be well-received in North America and China. Design-wise, it’s rumoured to have a short hood and a liftback-esque tailgate, to visually separate it from the smaller Cayenne and Macan. Knowing Porsche, it’ll likely have adjustable air suspension, four-wheel steering, and an electronic differential providing torque vectoring.
