Porsche marks their 75h Anniversary and Goodwood Festival of Speed’s 30th Anniversary with the showcasing of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster all-electric concept car. This new concept car is the sibling of the closed Porsche Vision 357.
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is based on technology taken from the 718 GT4 e-performance, which means that the electric motors are from the Mission R and the chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport.
Moving to the design aspect of the car, the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster has a low stance and a short windscreen. On the passenger side of the car, a tonneau cover is seen blocking that half.
The headrest on the driver’s side seems disconnected from the rest of the seat as it has a carbon roll-over element behind it, while the charging port sits behind that and so does the anchor points for the top cover of the Vision 357 Speedster.
The Porsche Vision 357 can be seen in a dual-tone colour, with the colour scheme in a Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic. The colour combination has been taken from the older generation race cars, like the front fenders and front wings which were used for protection from small debris on track, are visible in the darker grey shade.
The wrap-around bonnet is also in the Grivelo Grey Metallic shade and has features of Miami Blue present, which creates an eye-catching contrast. This colour-combo is also seen on the front wheels of the Vision 357.
Porsche’s Anniversary logo can be seen with the digits ’75’ and two years, ‘1948’ and ‘2023’ and come in a dual-tone colour, following the Grivelo Grey and Miami Blue colour scheme. A funky feature that we see are the unicorns that have been designed specially for this car.
In place of the ORVMs, cameras are fitted and are not placed where they traditionally would be. Instead, the “mirrors” are moved towards the front fenders. The cameras are not placed there just for any reason, but to improve the aerodynamics, acting like a wing.
Coming to the wheels, the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster has 20-inch magnesium ones which feature a carbon-fibre hub cap and a central lock. These remind us of the older Porsche wheels, namely on the 356A and 356B.
Moving to the interior, the cockpit of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is a completely driver-focused car. It has a low seat position with a carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) seat shell in order to reduce weight. The seat is cushioned with Racetex pads and the driver is held in place by a 6-point harness with the Miami Blue colour.
The instrument cluster is quite interesting. It has a transparent screen where readings are shown and is located on top of the steering column. The steering wheel is in a Grivelo Grey Metallic colour and is designed to be lightweight while the steering controls are in the Miami Blue shade.
The dashboard of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is covered in a “carbon-weave” finish. Instead of a traditional glove-box, Miami Blue straps on the top-right section can be used to keep belongings while door handles are replaced by fabric straps to reduce weight.
Thoughts On The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is a one-of-a-kind sports car. It has a modern-retro design spanning from the front lip to the rear bumper. It features a soothing colour combination that can be seen throughout the car. The Vision 357 Speedster is a great tribute for Porsche’s 75 years in the industry.
