Porsche unveils the 911 Carrera Panamericana Special, a tribute to an icon

The special model honours the 1952 356 S Cabriolet

Porsche recently unveiled the 911 Carrera Panamericana Special, which is a tribute to the first Porsche to cross the finish line the Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico – a Porsche 356 S Cabriolet marked with the number 11.

The 356 Super Cabriolet that raced in 1952 not only made history for being the first Porsche to run and finish the race but was the fastest among all cars with engines up to 1500 cubic centimeters.

That being said, the Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special here is based on a rear-wheel drive 911 Carrera S Cabriolet model 992 from 2022. The two most striking details of its exterior are the Graffiti Gray roof canvas and the white engine grille.

A very striking detail on the exterior of this collector’s car are its 20-inch Turbo design wheels at the front and 21 inches at the rear, whose inner drums and spokes were hand-painted in Gentian Blue metallic, while the central hubs are in grey.

This combination not only matches the color of the body, but also recalls the wheels of the 356 S Cabriolet from 1952. The brake calipers are painted black and not the traditional red.

Another reference to the original car is found in the upper part of the windshield, where a decal with a black background was placed with the name Porsche in white, which recalls the one used by the Prince of Metternich and Baron Teffé on the lid of the car.

On the upper part of the doors there are also decals with the shield of La Carrera Panamericana, reminiscent of those of the National Automobile Association (ANA) that the 356 S Cabriolet had.

In the cabin, the 911 Carrera Panamericana Special features adaptable Plus sports seats that are clad in Crayon Gray leather, with piping and the historical helmet of La Carrera Panamericana embroidered on the headrests in Graphite Blue.

The door panels are also coated in Crayon Gray, with matching Slate Gray floor mats, dash and steering wheel, and a Crayon Gray stripe across the top, a detail reminiscent of race cars.

Another cool feature is the ‘911 Carrera S La Carrera Panamericana 1952’ lettering that appears on the right side of the dashboard, which is complemented by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur logo printed in Graphite Blue stands on the central armrest.

Other distinctive elements of this Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special are the tachometer and the central clock that have white outer rings, the LED light projectors on the doors with the iconic design of the Carrera Panamericana license plate (the same which carried the 356 S Cabriolet at the rear), and the illuminated door sills with the individualized inscription ‘911 Carrera S La Carrera Panamericana 1952’.

Also part of the package is the key case in Slate Gray, side reinforcements in Crayon Gray, lanyard in Slate Gray, decorative stitching in Crayon Gray and the vehicle key in metallic Gentian Blue with ‘La Carrera Panamericana’ laser engraving.

That being said, the Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special will be auctioned next year, and part of the money raised will go to a charitable foundation.
