German luxury carmaker Porsche has revealed plans to go fully carbon neutral by the year 2030. Porsche revealed that by 2030, 80 per cent of its lineup will consist of EVs and that its iconic 911 sportscar will be a hybrid.
The news of Porsche’s accelerated timeline to go fully carbon neutral was revealed at the carmaker’s annual sales news conference. Porsche revealed that out of the 301,915 cars it sold last year (the first time the carmaker has crossed the 300,000 mark), 41,296 units were of the Taycan electric four door sedan.
This meant that the Taycan outsold the iconic Porsche 911 sports car (38,464 units) last year. The best selling vehicles in the Porsche lineup were once again the Macan (88,362) and Cayenne (83,071) SUVs.
Porsche revealed that last year alone, 40 per cent of its sales in Europe consisted of either EVs or hybrid vehicles. Porsche expects this number to go up to 50% in terms of worldwide sales by 2025.
Porsche is now targetting the year 2030 to become carbon neutral across its balance sheet. The company also stated that it expects EVs to contribute to 80 per cent of all sales by the same year.
Speaking at the press conference, Porsche AG chairman Oliver Blume said, “In 2025, half of all new Porsche sales are expected to come from the sale of electric vehicles – i.e. all-electric or plug-in hybrid. “In 2030, the share of all new vehicles with an all-electric drive should be more than 80 per cent.”
To achieve these lofty goals, Porsche is ramping up its investments into electric vehicle charging along with battery and module manufacturing as it looks to go green.
Porsche has stated that it will be investing in premium charging stations along with its partners while also developing its own charging infrastructure at the same time.
The company’s own high-performance battery cells are expected to be ready for series production by the year 2024. The new batteries will be produced at its Cellforce Group joint venture facility at Weissach Development Centre in Weissach, Germany.
The Cellforce Group is a joint venture between Porsche and CustomCells, one of the world’s leading companies in the development of special lithium-ion battery cells.
Porsche has already revealed the initial plans to electrify its lineup of cars. The first vehicle of the present lineup to go fully electric will be the Macan SUV. The electric Macan is expected to be unveiled later this year and will hit showrooms by next year.
Next on the list to go electric will be the 718 lineup – Boxster and Cayman. The EV versions of both of these sports cars will be based on the Mission R concept unveiled last year.
While the rest of the lineup will go electric by 2030, there will still be one stubborn holdout – the 911. Porsche’s iconic sports car will instead go down the hybrid route.

Thoughts On Porsche’s Plan To Go Carbon Neutral By 2030
The announcement about Porsche going carbon neutral is something we’ve expected for a while now. Porsche though is going about it in its own way with the 911 stubbornly refusing to go fully electric even by the year 2030 so that petrolheads can at least have something to listen to that actually sounds like an engine. Let’s just hope the rest of the lineup doesn’t become too boringly quiet.
