Latest in long line of famous Porsche art cars celebrates sports car marque’s 75th anniversary
Porsche recently celebrated its 75th birthday by commissioning a special Porsche art car for the 2023 Photofairs Shanghai art fair.
Partnering with Scottish digital artist Chris Labrooy and Chinese contemporary artist Yang Yongliang, Porsche divided the ‘Dream in Colour’ exhibition into four sections – Origin, Inspiration, Passion and Vision – to help showcase the car-maker’s history and ethos.
Featuring rare archive footage, plus a curated selection of individual items on loan from the German brand’s Zuffenhausen home, the exhibition and collection of colourful artworks charted Porsche’s 75-year-long journey via an “immersive brand experience”.
Sitting pride of place was a limited-edition rainbow-coloured Porsche Taycan Turbo S that’s claimed to “demonstrate the brand’s long-standing heritage and continuing beliefs”.
Porsche has a long history and association with art cars that dates back to 1968, when rock legend Janis Joplin paid an artist to paint a colourful mural along the side of her Porsche 356 SC.
Up until then, the sports car was only available in nine dull colours.
