With the Porsche Macan EV and a three-row SUV lining-up, Volkswagen’s performance brand is already preparing for the future with launches in new segments. In addition to these, Porsche is planning one more zero-emission family model. It’s a Porsche Panamera electric successor, claims a report from German publication Automobilwoche.
Porsche has an EV in the Panamera segment, which is the Taycan. However, it has decided to launch the Panamera also with electric propulsion when it moves to the next generation. It’s possible that the company could make the Panamera a higher-class model that competes with the Mercedes EQS, with new technology and higher margins.
Two Porsche models to sit on the PPE Platform
Volkswagen Group CEO Dr. Herbert Diess has said that two Porsche models should make use of the PPE platform in the premium segment. Dr. Diess hasn’t revealed the identities of the Porsche models, but according to the German publication’s intel, these will be the large SUV previously allocated to the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Hannover plant and a Panamera electric successor. The former, codenamed K1, would be a Panamera-sized crossover, and may rollout of the Porsche Leipzig plant.
The electric crossover and the Panamera electric successor will share the PPE platform. Internally called PPE61, it will be different from the PPE application of the Macan EV. For reference, Porsche will use a ‘PPE41’ version in the Macan EV. Porsche could launch the Panamera electric successor around 2025. It may start series production of the K1 electric crossover in 2026.
We will update this page as we get more information on the future launches.
