The Porsche Panamera 4-E Hybrid Platinum Edition, which launched in Thailand last month, is a four-seater sports car with impressive performance, along with a mixture of luxury, comfort and exclusive design highlights.
The Panamera is the third most popular model within the Porsche line-up and nearly 200 units were sold in Thailand last year. The Platinum Edition is not a limited edition, and there are no restraints regarding production.
Porsche says that it will take less than two months for customers to get their hands on the Platinum Edition.
While offering the type of performance expected from a Porsche, the Platinum Edition also boasts significantly improved fuel efficiency thanks to its hybrid powertrain.
Design
Based on the Executive model, the Panamera Hybrid’s form and proportions are distinctly Porsche — athletic and sleek, with distinct outlines and a strong set of muscles.
In addition to the long wheelbase and reduced front overhang, it has a longer rear overhang, which creates visual dynamism. It is the dramatic shaping of the side profile that gives the Porsche its characteristic waistline and impression of lightness. The Panamera Executive variants provide a dynamic driving experience combined with a comfortable working environment in the rear.
The Platinum Edition represents a particularly elegant and exclusive version of the Panamera line-up. It combines the discreet Satin Gloss Platinum design features with an extended list of standard equipment, such as adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management, panoramic roof system, LED matrix main headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus and Platinum-painted 21-inch Exclusive Design Sport alloy wheels.
E-Hybrid Powerplant
The Panamera 4-E Hybrid models come with as much as 462hp and maximum torque of 870Nm — this is serious power we’re talking about. The total system output is achieved by combining the output of the combustion engine with the 136hp electric motor.
The internal combustion engine builds up power and torque with increasing speed but maximum torque from the electric motor is available immediately. The result is whopping acceleration right from the start.
The Panamera 4-E Hybrid is able to cover approximately 47-56km in pure electric mode, while average fuel consumption is claimed at 2.2-2.1 l/100km. Meanwhile, electrical consumption is claimed at 17.5 – 17.0kWh/100km.
Chassis
The chassis of the Panamera models performs a great balancing act between sport and comfort effortlessly. It has been completely redesigned to deliver more precise steering and comes with a new generation of tyres. This Panamera 4-E Hybrid has exceptional performance on the track, but can still be used as an everyday car.
Rear Steering
At low speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction to that of the front wheels. This leads to a virtual shortening of the wheelbase — the turning circle is reduced, agility is increased and parking becomes noticeably easier to manage.
At high speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels. This virtual extension of the wheelbase increases driving stability. With rear-axle steering, there are no contradictory forces between stability and agility. Porsche claims that the result is greater manoeuvrability and driving safety in everyday use.
Brakes
For over 70 years, Porsche has been working on faster acceleration and deceleration. The Panamera 4-E Hybrid is equipped with six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake callipers at the front and four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake callipers at the rear. The single-piece brake callipers are light and highly resistant to deformation. The pedal travel is tight, the pressure point is precise and Porsche claims the braking distance is impressively short. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake with 420mm diameter discs at the front and up to 410mm discs at the rear is available as an option if customers take their cars to the track often.
Sport Chrono Package
This is an adrenaline rush at the push of a button. The Sport Chrono Package offers even sportier tuning of the chassis, engine and transmission. There are four driving modes — Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.
Sport will increase dynamics and offer more direct handling while Sport Plus preps the engine to become more responsive. Meanwhile the suspension height drops and the system firms up the dampers. The rear-axle steering also contributes to greater agility.
Launch control is now available in this mode to optimise acceleration from a standing start.
