A new release, the FIA said that Porsche was still in discussions with Formula 1 teams.
Bernard Cahier/Getty ImagesWhen we learned that the Red Bull-Porsche deal had fallen apart over the summer break, it seemed like Porsche’s Formula 1 hopes were dashed, at least temporarily. But according to the FIA, F1’s governing body, there’s still a chance we see Porsche in F1.
“At Spa-Francorchamps in August, Audi announced it was joining the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026 as a power unit manufacturer,” the release said, as spotted by Motorsport.com. “This announcement was an endorsement of the hard work by all stakeholders to develop those regulations. We also note that Porsche are [sic] still in discussions with Formula 1 teams.”
The fact that the FIA refers to “teams” in plural suggests that Porsche has not settled on one partner. But given the company’s mastery of internal combustion engines and its considerable racing history, Porsche is likely an attractive partner to teams that don’t currently produce their own engines. Either way, don’t expect to see Porsche join the sport in any real capacity before the engine regulations change for 2026.
