The all-electric sedan has been on sale for just three years.
PorschePorsche announced Tuesday it has produced its 100,000th Taycan. The car in question, a Turbo S painted in Neptune Blue, rolled off the line on Monday, and is destined for a customer in the United Kingdom.
This car represents an important milestone for Porsche and the EV market. The Taycan, the German sports carmaker’s first all-electric production car, went on sale in September 2019. Since then it’s become one of the brand’s most popular models, routinely outselling every sports car in its lineup, including the iconic 911.
“We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly— despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation,” Vice President Model Line Taycan Kevin Giek said in a statement. “With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age.”
Since its launch, Porsche has introduced no less than 10 different Taycan models across two different body styles, ranging from the base 402-hp sedan to the 750-hp Turbo S Cross Turismo, capable of ripping from zero to 60 in just 2.7 seconds. Considering the car’s popularity, we don’t see it leaving Porsche’s lineup any time soon.
