Porsche has announced an investment of $75 million in HIF Global as a part of its efforts towards sustainable mobility. HIF Global is one of the leaders in sustainable fuels and is internationally recognised for its sustainable fuel projects. Porsche and HIF GLobal are together expected to create eFuels for usage in Porsche’s sports cars as well as in Motorsport.
A sense of environment-consciousness has set in, with people and companies around the world adopting newer, greener, and more sustainable practices. In the automobile industry, almost all brands seem to think that electric vehicles are the only way forward. However, there are a few brands that do not believe only in electric, but also in sustainable fuels. Porsche is one of them.
For a long time now, Porsche has been talking of sustainably-fueled internal combustion engines powering cars of the future. Make no mistake, Porsche too believes in EV power. In fact, with the Porsche Taycan, the brand has proven its engineering prowess in building a pure electric car.
However, the brand is also looking at using carbon-neutral internal combustion engines. Porsche is an enthusiasts’ brand and would want to remain that way. Most of the brand’s models are eternal enthusiasts’ favourites.
The 911 range of models will never go out of vogue while cars like the Carrera GT will remain among the fastest and most engaging cars to drive. The Porsche Cayenne is one of the fastest and best-handling SUVs in the world and the smaller Porsches like the Boxster and Cayman are much-loved.
With a range of enthusiastic cars on sale, Porsche would want to keep these enthusiasts in the fold even in the future. This is why sustainable fuels are the need of the hour. HIF Global is one of the best in the business when it comes to sustainable fuels and eFuels and therefore this investment makes sense.
What makes this $75 million investment even more interesting is that Porsche’s partners Siemens Energy and ExxonMobil are also involved in it. They are among the biggest energy and oil producers in the world and these brands coming together to develop some eFuels.
These synthetic fuels will allow combustion engines to be operated in a carbon-neutral manner. Even the production of these fuels will be powered by wind energy and it is not polluting even in that manner. Production of these eFuels is expected to start halfway through 2022.
Porsche plans to use these fuels in its flagship motorsport projects and will also be used to fuel up the internal combustion cars at Porsche experience centres and while leaving the Porsche factory.
Thoughts On Porsche Investing $75 Million In Sustainable Fuel Company HIF Global
As aforementioned, Porsche is an Enthusiasts’ brand and is looking at catering to enthusiasts. Despite the magical lap times and 0-100 times clocked by some fast electric cars, there are still enthusiasts out there who want internal combustion engines and Porsche seems intent on using sustainable fuels to keep these internal combustion engines powered.
